What I have learned to do with Photoshop- Use the pen tool to draw outline of Super Man, pour paint into the background, use rectangles within another rectangle for the motion lines. For the effects use Light leak effects in pixelmator- select background then use nebula 100% with a 60% sunniness. Here is the link
